A draft plan to reform travel industry regulation in Australia has now closed for public comment.

The draft Travel Industry Transition Plan, released by Australian Ministers for Consumer Affairs, recommends options to reform regulation of travel agents.

It is the result of a review, started in 2010. The review considered whether the existing regulatory framework, introduced in 1986, was suitable to modern market conditions.

Submissions were requested in response to specific questions about the transition arrangements discussed in the Plan.

Feedback will inform the development of a final plan that Ministers for Consumer Affairs are due to consider for approval in December 2012.

Submissions closed on Monday 1 October 2012.
