Trade measurement goes Commonwealth

On 13 April 2007, following a review of state and territory trade measurement systems, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to the introduction of a single national system of trade measurement.

The National Trade Measurement Regulations 2009 (Cth) commenced on 11 September 2009 in preparation for the transition of trade measurement responsibilities from the state and territory jurisdictions to the Commonwealth on 1 July 2010.

From 1 July 2010 the National Measurement Institute (NMI), Australian's peak measurement body, will be responsible for trade measurement regulation.

NMI has produced a fact sheet with a general overview of the regulations.
