Fair Trading's role |
Fair Trading administers the Cooperatives Act 1997 and the Cooperatives Regulation 1997. Where the Act refers to the Registrar, this means Fair Trading.
We also:
- operate an information service that gives advice on policy, legislative and practical matters, particularly about forming, operating, merging or winding up cooperatives
- maintain the register of cooperatives, which includes information about rules, alterations, special resolutions and charges over assets
- conduct register searches for information about cooperatives, including rules, documents and annual reports
- advise on and manage a legislative framework to operate and develop Queensland cooperatives
- develop strategies and programs to ensure that cooperatives comply with legislative requirements
- monitor and analyse cooperatives' performances.
