Motor dealers must keep an employment register that lists the names of all licensees and registered salespeople on their staff.

It should show when they started and finished working for you, outline each salesperson's employment authority.

Employment authorities

When registered salespeople start work, you must give them an employment authority. This authorises them to perform specified functions for you, the licensed motor dealer.

You must enter their details into your employment register.

Employees who hold licences of the same class as the employer do not need registration or employment authorities. However, you must still enter their details into your employment register.

Changes to employment authorities

You must also notify us in writing of any changes in employment authorities.

There is no approved form for employment authorities.
