Business premises |
You must show us documentary evidence of your intended place of business, and that it complies with local government regulations, we can give you an individual or corporate motor dealer licence.
Who can be in charge?
Your premises must have a licensed motor dealer in charge.
An individual cannot be in charge of more than one place of business, except where the businesses are physically attached to each other.
If you are an individual and principal licensee, you must be in charge of the business at your registered office. If you have more than one office, you must ensure that another licensed motor dealer is in charge of the business at the other location.
If you are motor dealer with a corporate licence, you must ensure that a licensed motor dealer is in charge at each of your registered offices.
Changing premises
If you change your place of business, you must notify us within 14 days of the change and prove that the new place complies with the relevant government's by-laws for use as a motor dealer business.
Documentary evidence can be:
- a letter or certificate from the local government (town or shire council) where your business is located that clearly states the property is suitable for conducting a motor dealing business
- evidence from the local authority confirming this (if the local government does not provide written approval but provides a self-assessment process), and a copy of the completed self-assessment.
Sharing premises
Two or more licensed motor dealers may share premises, as long as they each give us local authority approval provided under the Integrated Planning Act 1997.
