An incorporated association must have at least seven members.

The management committee must have at least three members. The committee must have a president, secretary and treasurer. The president and treasurer must be two different people.

Complaints involving the management committee

We have no power to intervene in disputes between the public and the management committee, or between association members and the management committee. The management committee is responsible for interpreting the rules of the association.

The Supreme Court is the only body that can intervene in an incorporated association’s affairs. The court can make orders about how the association should conduct its affairs and can award costs.

Mediation

Our Dispute Resolution Branch offers a free mediation service which may help resolve conflicts within an incorporated association.
