On the road again
The OFT road show team continues to motor throughout the state with five trips to rural and regional Queensland undertaken this year. At each visit, the team promote Fair Trading services and inform consumers and businesses of their rights and responsibilities. In addition, there is always a seminar specifically on the requirements and responsibilities of managing an Incorporated Association.
At the end of each presentation the public have an opportunity to express any concerns, gain clarification of issues or receive more information about the topics discussed.
Compliance activities are also a component of the program with Fair Trading inspectors conducting general and specific inspections of businesses - particularly those in licensed or regulated industries.
RSVPs for the information sessions are not required. All are welcome to attend. For session dates and times visit our website.
Repair notices
Did you know under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) a business must give you a repair notice before accepting goods for repair if:
- the goods being repaired are capable of retaining user-generated data, such as a mobile phone, portable music player or computer hard drive
- it is the repairer´s practice to supply refurbished goods rather than repair a defective good, or to use refurbished parts in the repair of defective goods.
A repair notice must be provided to you before any work starts and cannot just be displayed as signage. If you post the good to a repairer, a repair notice must be posted to you prior to any work starting.
These provisions are designed to ensure consumers are aware they may lose information stored on the devices. This enables you to make an informed decision about whether or not to proceed.
Penalties apply for failing to comply with these rules. For more information, visit the ACCC´s webpage on repair notices.
