Door-to-door traders

Printable view Printable view

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is warning Queenslanders about the suspected unlawful business practices of a group of tradesmen targeting elderly people in South East Queensland.

The tradesmen are approaching people in their homes, convincing them that they need work done to their houses and applying pressure tactics to close the sale. They have even driven a number of people to the bank to withdraw large amounts of cash for payment.

The OFT is concerned the tradesmen may have broken door-to-door trading laws which are in place to protect consumers and advises Queenslanders to be wary if approached at home by tradesmen.

Police are investigating these matters and ask that if you are approached by these tradesmen or have any information about them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit http://www.crimestoppers.com.au/
