Deactivate or reactivate a licence |
To deactivate or reactivate a motor dealer licence:
- write a letter requesting how you would like us to amend the licence
- attach the licence you want amended
- pay the deactivation or reactivation fee of $69.00
- send the request to our Industry Licensing Unit.
Deactivate your licence
We will deactivate your licence as soon as we receive your written request and you pay the appropriate fee.
There is no refund for deactivating a licence, as the licence expiry date remains the same.
The licensee can ask us to reactivate, renew as deactivated or restore the licence. You can renew your licence while it is deactivated if you have traded for at least one year of the five years before you deactivated it.
If you want us to reactivate your licence later, you must pay the ongoing deactivation renewal fees on time.
If your licence remains deactivated for four years or more, you must satisfy any training or other requirements for us to issue the licence.
Reactivate your licence
We give you a receipt after you pay for your licence. This receipt is not a substitute for a licence, i.e. you cannot work with it. You must wait until you get your reactivated licence.
If you renew or restore your licence while it is deactivated, you must pay any difference between the renewal issue deactivated fee and the renewal issue fee. We will calculate the difference for you.
When you lodge your reactivation renewal, you must also pay a criminal history check fee of $38.40 for each person whose name, date and place of birth appears on the form. This includes partners, executive officers and directors mentioned on the renewal application.
Processing time
Processing time is 4-6 weeks from lodgement. However, it can take longer if we need to contact you for missing information or fees, such as criminal history check fees.
