Lodge a complaint about an unsafe product |
We take product safety seriously and encourage you to tell us about any unsafe products in the marketplace.
To investigate your complaint, we need you to give us important information.
What we do not investigate
There are several items we do not investigate.
If you are concerned about:
- motor vehicles, trailers and dangerous goods, see the Department of Transport and Main Roads
- electrical products, see the Electrical Safety Office
- workplace heath and safety on amusement rides, and industrial and construction equipment, see the Department of Justice and Attorney-General
- gas, explosives and fireworks, see Queensland Mines and Energy
- medicines and medical devices, see Therapeutic Goods Administration (Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing)
- food, drugs and poisons, and environmental toxicology, see Queensland Health.
For recall advice and information, see Product Recalls Australia.
If you have any doubt, lodge a complaint with us.
What you need
Your complaint must be about products or services sold in Queensland.
Your complaint must contain information about:
- who the trader is and their specific details
- a description of the unsafe product or service
- details of why you believe the product or service is unsafe
- copies of supporting evidence, such as samples, photos or correspondence
- what you have done to try to resolve the problem.
How to lodge your complaint
To make your complaint:
- complete Product Safety Form 1 - Unsafe product or service complaint form (PDF, 139 KB)
- lodge your form (see the application form for lodgement details).
If you have been injured or had property damaged
If you bought a product that caused an injury, you may be able to seek compensation. However, we do not handle these issues.
In this case, you need to find a lawyer experienced in product liability law who can tell you whether it is worth pursuing the issue through the legal system.
After you lodge your complaint
See our complaint handling process.
