Is a charity legitimate?

Call us to find out if an organisation is a registered charity or is authorised to fundraise.

Viewing or copying charity records

If you want more specific information about a registered charity, call us to request the documents you would like to view or get copies of. We will locate the files (some may be off-site), let you know when they are available and quote you a cost based on the number of documents and pages requested.

Viewing documents in person

Because many of the files are stored off-site, you will need to call us beforehand. We will organise to have the documents made available for you to view.

Getting copies of documents

You can request copies of documents about registered charities. You need to fax our Registration Services branch with authorisation to debit your credit card. The fee for copies is $2.70 per page (electronic, fax or print).

Identifying genuine collectors

Legitimate street and door-to-door charity collectors should:

If you don’t think a  collector is genuine, do not make a donation. Note down a description of the collector and their vehicle and report it to us.
