Change a business name |
The process you use to change your business name will depend on your reason for the change.
Because you’ve changed your mind
If you wish to change your registered business name or have changed your mind about your original business name, you must apply for a new name and cancel your original name.
As this is a new application, you must:
- register a new business name, which means completing the application form and providing certified proof of identity again
- complete section 9, ‘Cancellation of current business name’, on the application form. We will not cancel your original business name until you register a new one
- pay the full registration fee (and you will not receive a refund for the fees you paid on your original application)
- lodge your application.
See how to register a business name.
Because you made a spelling error on your application
To fix a spelling error on your registered business name, you must send a letter to our Registration Services branch telling us the error in the original application and how you would like it fixed.
Remember to:
- include your business name registration number
- state that you have not used the incorrectly spelt name in any way
- mention the error in the original application and how we should correct it
- sign the letter (only one original applicant needs to sign).
Note: If you have already started trading under the misspelt name, you cannot apply to have it corrected. You must apply for registration of the correct business name.
