
2009 winners |
More than 386 students from 26 schools across Queensland entered the 2009 Buy Smart Competition.
This competition challenged students to invent fun and creative ways to spread important financial literacy and consumer awareness messages.
Years 5-7 winners
First prize - Batul Al Shakarji, Louisha Rosser, Toan Tran, Rachel Hall, Jeka Guthrie and Samantha Johnson from Wulguru State School. Their entry was a financial literacy version of "Are you smarter than a 6th grader", featuring some very high-profiled guests.
Second prize - Maddison King from Yeppoon State Primary School for her "Avoid the debt net brochure" which outlined some great tips for managing your money.
Third prize - Shania Dekkers from Rockhampton South Uniting Church Youth Group created a fantastic DVD promoting a number of important consumer messages.
Years 8-9 winners
First prize - Kate Coombes, Bridie O'Toole and Maddy Sholl from Marymount College with their lively DVD giving advice about responsible use of credit cards and avoiding online scams.
Second prize - Christopher Iuvale and Daniel Paulse from Christian Outreach College for their DVD with a prestentation and special features including a song with a film clip and blooper reel.
Third prize - Matthew Kleidon, Dannielle Stewart, Thomas O'Callaghan and Robert Lee from Wavell State High School for their board game, "Junior Tycoon".
Years 10-12 winners
First prize - Noreen Khan, Tu Man Chau, Rosa Shen, Sarah Wang, Melody Tai and Vishruthi Sivasubramaniam from the Queensland Academy of Maths, Science and Technology for their educational DVD, "Cost Busters".
Second prize - Carly Lambert, Madeleine Carlisle and Madeleine Campbell from Brisbane Girls Grammar School who wrote new lyrics to a couple of familiar tunes, recording new hits including "Save it up", "Keep on saving" and "Reach for the budget".
Third prize - Cassidy Weisse from the Cathedral College for her scratch software presentation about planning for schoolies.
