Approved security industry association

Printable view Printable view

The Security Providers Act 1993 empowers approved security industry associations to take on a key role of improving the integrity of the security industry. This role will supplement the compliance activities we conduct.

All Queensland security firms are required to be a member of an approved security industry association.

While not technically a licence type, security industry associations must still be approved by us in order to take security firms as members for licensing purposes.

Apply for approval as a security industry association

For your organisation to become an approved security industry association, you will need to supply the following to us:

  1. A letter of application asking for approval as a security industry association.
  2. A certified copy of your organisation´s certificate of incorporation or registration.
  3. A copy of the memorandum and articles of association or the rules/constitution of your organisation.
  4. Copies of your organisation´s financial statements for the last three years (or since establishment if less than three years), with an accountant´s written report about the accountant´s audit of the statements.
  5. A copy of a declaration of financial viability that is dated and signed by your management committee or board of directors.
  6. A copy of a business plan that:

    • describes how the association will be funded
    • details the services that will be provided to members
    • adopts a whole-of-business approach to planning by addressing matters such as marketing, financial management and risk management.
  7. A document signed and dated by an accountant stating:

    • the accountant´s name and business address
    • that the accountant agrees with the declaration of the financial viability for the association based on an examination of the financial statements, written reports about the accountant´s audit of each financial statement and the business plan for the association.
  8. Details of how your organisation promotes high standards of ethics and conduct in the security industry and it will develop the professional competence of its members.
  9. A copy of your organisation´s code of conduct, which must include a description of the process for taking remedial and disciplinary action should a member breach the code.
  10. An acknowledgement that your organisation will appoint a suitably qualified independent accountant to conduct an audit of each member´s compliance with your code of conduct at least once every three years.
  11. A copy of your organisation´s complaint management policy.
  12. An acknowledgement that your organisation will provide all required documentation to us. These include financial statements, statements about your compliance audits, statements regarding any complaints made against members, copies of your code of conduct or complaint management policy should you ever update them, and details of any members who have cancelled their membership or had their membership cancelled.
  13. Written consent for your association´s details to be placed on our website. Details of all approved security industry associations will be placed online, so that security firms can easily identify an appropriate association to become a member of.

If your association´s application for approval is rejected by us, you have the right to appeal the decision to the Magistrates Court.
