Appoint a solicitor |
We strongly recommend that you get independent legal advice when selling property.
Solicitors must carry professional indemnity insurance, which protects you if something goes wrong because of action that a solicitor takes or does not take.
When choosing a solicitor or conveyancing specialist, shop around and compare experience, services and costs. Choose a firm recommended for its conveyancing skills. Ensure your solicitor is independent of any other party you are dealing with in the property transaction.
Before you appoint a solicitor or conveyancer, ask for a detailed quote for the work you want done. Some conveyancing solicitors may provide a set price.
The Queensland Law Society has an online and phone referral service that lists solicitors in your area.
You can ask your solicitor to:
- draft the contract of sale to ensure it contains conditions of sale that are appropriate to your needs
- check the contract for sale before you sign.
