Are you on the job hunt or looking for career advice? This month´s edition will point you in the right direction.
The job hunt
If you´re on the job hunt check the careers section of the newspaper, surf internet sites such as Australian Job Search or visit an employment agency. Find a list of job seeker resources at the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation web site or visit Job Services Australia for more help with finding a job.
Most people change jobs many times during their life. Each job you have will expand your skills and experience, leading you towards a better job or your dream career. However, it´s important to be careful of job offers that sound to good to be true.
Bogus job offers
Follow these simple tips to protect yourself.
- Be cautious of overseas job offers.
- Read every job advertisement carefully, look for well known names, logos, addresses and phone numbers.
- Don´t send money to post office addresses. You shouldn´t have to pay for information about genuine job offers.
- Make contact with the company offering the job and ask for more information about working conditions, salary and possible financial costs to you. Be suspicious of unclear or evasive responses.
If you think you have come across a bogus job offer, report it to the Office of Fair Trading.
